Announcing: Lee Orr’s Aviation Scholarship

Spartanburg Pilots Association President Don Morgan issued a statement on behalf of the Association approximately 16 months ago concerning the formation of an Aviation Scholarship named for one of South Carolina’s Icons in the aviation industry, Mrs. Annie Lee Babb Orr. He said “Since Lee Orr worked, lived and taught thousands to fly in the upstate, the recipients of the scholarship would be local and asked for the members of the association to contribute to this most worthwhile cause for our future aviators.

Over the past several months the SPA Board has been working on the formation of the scholarship fund. Board Member Ron Fenner has worked tirelessly and has had good preliminary success in fund raising for this most worthwhile cause. Earlier this week, SPA Treasurer Marc Elliott, Secretary and Past President Ed Vess, President Elect Joe Sessoms, and Board Member, Fundraising Chairman Ron Fenner were on hand with Troy Hanna, CEO and President of the Spartanburg County Foundation for the signing of the agreement and turning over the collected funding for the Lee Orr Scholarship to the Foundation The original amount turned over to the Spartanburg County Foundation is $7,051.00.
