2023 Aviation Week is April 23-29th
Is your airport interested in hosting an event? SCAA is looking for airports to host educational and/or celebration events during Aviation Week. Email Jayne Baker to sign up and/or learn more.

The following airports have committed to host an event during Aviation Week:

1. Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport – In honor of Earth Day, Trees Upstate will donate trees to plant at the airport and will fly trees to any interested airports in SC. The airport must provide staff and/or volunteers to plant the trees. Please complete the survey to request tree delivery.
2. Greenville Downtown Airport – Hosting aviation themed field trips
3. Jim Hamilton – LB Owens Airport – Hosting an aviation career signing day
4. Fairfield County Airport – Senior flight day with three high school seniors
5. Beaufort Executive Airport – Ribbon cutting celebration highlighting the airport’s terminal renovations

During this briefing we will clarify exactly what preventative maintenance is and who can perform it. We will give you handy references and show you where to get them. Should you do a logbook entry when you perform preventative maintenance? Can you supervise someone else performing preventative maintenance?

TRUST – Test and Airspace for Recreational UAS Operators

The Recreational UAS Safety Test, Charleston Airspace Classifications, Restrictions and Local Ordinance.

The Reauthorization Act of 2018 and 49 USC 44809: Exception for Limited Recreational Operations of Unmanned Aircraft created specific rules and limitations for Recreational UAS Pilots. In this presentation we will discuss TRUST, The Recreational UAS Safety Test, Define Recreational Flying, Operational Rules for Recreation Pilots, Registering your UAS, Approved Areas for Operation, and Controlled Airspace Authorizations. We will discuss some differences in Recreational Flying and Commercial UAS Operations.

South Carolina Breakfast Club 

Every other Sunday since 1938, pilots and aviation enthusiasts meet for breakfast in South Carolina airports. There are no dues or meeting requirements. Fly in or drive to the airport, belly up, and talk aircraft, aviation or anything else. This event is free to attend, and breakfast is typically $6-10 per plate.

The next SCHAF Open House will take place Saturday, Mar 11, 2023, from 10:00 am-1:00 pm at Hangar Y-1 at Jim Hamilton/LB Owens Airport.

Uncle Jon’s Fly-In at Triple Tree Aerodome

Uncle John’s Fly-In at Triple Tree Aerodome will take place March 24-26, 2023.  On Friday night, they will have a featured speaker. On Saturday, they will have aviation-themed games hosted by the Clemson Flight Team, witn fun and fellowship. The gates will open at 10 am Friday and the event will wrap-up around noon on Sunday. Pre-Sale Tickets are available now and will end on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at 10:00 am.

SkyTrails Exhibit at SC Military Museum

The SkyTrails exhibit at the SC Military Museum, in Columbia, S.C., is OPEN! The exhibit shows aviation artifacts and memorabilia.
