KGMU Runway Closures May 25th

From the GMU Airport Commision:

As you may be aware, we are planning a fundraiser for our community corridor at GMU, the “7th Annual Take Flight 5K,” that will take place on Saturday, May 25th from 8:30a.m. until 11:00 a.m.

The event is exactly 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) and has no repeat loops where runners could cross paths with walkers or other participants. It also gets everyone off GMU’s primary runway in the quickest manner possible. When the last walker exits Runway 1-19 it will be reopened. The slowest walker should be off the main runway within 45 minutes of the race starting.

The main event is scheduled to start at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 25th. A one mile kids run will begin as soon as the 5K ends. When the kids run is completed, Runway 10-28 will be reopened without delay. We will be in constant contact with the GMU ATCT immediately before, during, and after the event. Please schedule your flights prior to the event or after the event.

A NOTAM will be issued well in advance of the event stating that Runway 1-19 will be closed from 8:00 a.m. until 9:30 a.m. and Runway 10-28 will be closed from 8:00a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Several airports around the country sponsor these types of events and they have proven to be very good for community outreach. In this case, all proceeds will go to our community corridor project.

We hope that you see the value in this event and we appreciate your patience and understanding. We are here to help resolve any issues that you may foresee or that arise the day of the event. Please make note of this on your calendars and make your employees and customers aware of our plans.

Thanks for your cooperation and support for GMU’s outreach to our community!
