Plum Island Airport in Newburyport, Mass., utilized a grant from the state's Department of Transportation to undergo a nearly $2 million project to repave the runway and add perimeter landscaping. Bell is mulling an international market for the 360 Invictus helicopter currently under development for the US Army Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft requirement. "I don't want to talk about specific countries, but the attributes of the Invictus should appeal to most air forces and/or armies [that operate helicopter gunships]," said Bell's Chris Gehler during the Farnborough International Airshow.
Six aviators who earned their sport pilot certificates through an Able Flight scholarship program will be honored at a July 26 ceremony during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh. The pilots earning their wings all use wheelchairs and received training from Purdue University flight instructors to fly specially equipped light sport airplanes.
The US, represented by a team from Newport High School in Bellevue, Wash., took second place at the International Rocketry Challenge, with Team Japan winning the event.
