The Federal Aviation Administration has published a plan to initiate a competitive air taxi market, aiming to begin limited operations as early as 2025 and establish service in at least one city by 2028. The FAA envisions beginning with existing flight rules for helicopters and other low-altitude aircraft and requiring human pilots at least in the initial phases.
Garmin’s Autoland and Autothrottle are close to earning Federal Aviation Administration retrofit certification for use on Beechcraft King Air twin turboprops equipped with the Garmin G1000 NXi flight deck. There are more than 800 G1000 retrofits in the King Air fleet that would be eligible for the upgrade, with the 200 series expected to be certified first, followed by the 300 series.

North Platte Regional Airport in Nebraska plans to begin construction on a new terminal building in 2024 or 2025 to replace a small and outdated facility. The project is estimated to cost approximately $30 million, with most of the funding to come from federal grants.

The New York City Police Department recently went to Hook Creek Park in Queens to test a drone that can act as a public address system in weather emergencies. The drone could fly over neighborhoods and warn residents to stay inside or take other actions according to the situation.
Pilot Dan Moore will try to achieve a record-setting flight in which he lands in 25 states in 24 hours, ending up at EAA AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., on July 24. Moore, who previously set a record in 2019 for the most airports visited in 24 hours, will start his journey in Oklahoma before heading to the East Coast, moving on to the Midwest and finishing his quest in Wisconsin.
A partnership between Bishop State Community College and Airbus, called Flight Path 9, offers high-school students in Mobile, Ala., the opportunity to learn early airplane building skills through an after-school and summer program. The program aims to put students on a path to careers at Airbus’ US airplane assembly plant, providing them with manufacturing skills and the chance to apprentice at the Airbus Final Assembly Line.
